Hi everyone! Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Today’s update is coming straight from Eli himself.

________________________________________________________________

Hey everyone,

It’s hard to believe that it has already been six weeks since the accident that landed me in the hospital. I don’t remember much from the accident itself or from the first couple of weeks afterward, so I want to start by thanking my sister, Lida, for creating this blog. It has been an incredibly meaningful record for me as I’ve tried to piece together everything that happened. I’ve also been amazed by how many people have told me they were following along and checking in on my progress. Thank you, Lida, for documenting this journey so beautifully.

As for the last couple of weeks, being home has been absolutely incredible. Being able to eat real food, sit on the couch, do a little cooking, and sleep in my own bed again has honestly felt surreal. I’ve also loved being able to spend time outside, especially after that intense cold snap we had. Even simple things feel pretty special right now.

Outpatient therapy has been going really well. Occupational therapy has been focused on vision and dexterity, and I’m already noticing improvements with the double vision. In some especially exciting news from physical therapy this week, I was able to walk for about 20 minutes without using a walker or a cane.

My therapists are thrilled with my progress and continue to encourage me to stay consistent with my at-home exercises, which I am more than happy to do. I am very determined to keep improving. My girlfriend Leigh Ann, along with Denise and Jim from the riding club, have been incredibly helpful in getting me to appointments, and I am so grateful for their support.

And now, to the countless people who have supported me through all of this. To my family, friends, coworkers, and even people I have never met. To everyone who sent cards, flowers, crafts, meals, and messages. To everyone who left kind and encouraging comments on this blog. And especially to those who were so generous in donating to the GoFundMe my sister set up.

There really aren’t enough words to express how thankful I am. A single paragraph could never fully capture the gratitude I feel for every act of kindness, support, and generosity I received while I was in the hospital. I truly believe that the love and encouragement sent from all over the world played a huge role in my healing, and I honestly think it is a big reason I was able to make it home for the holidays. So, for lack of better words, thank you.

I hope the holiday season is treating you all well, and I hope 2026 is an amazing year for all of us.

With so much gratitude,

Eli Walsh

Eli,

It is the morning of January 1 and as I look back on 2025, I realized that the best thing that happened during that year was your recovery.
