Overnight, some of the swelling in Eli’s lower face went down a little. He is still very bruised, but it feels like a small win.
Early this morning, Eli became extremely agitated, even though he was not awake. He tried to sit up and move. The doctors believe this is his body reacting to the trauma and likely to pain. To keep him safe, they increased his sedation again. He is now very heavily sedated.
Updates from today:
• The doctors are hoping to take him into surgery tomorrow to repair his femur.
• The enzyme I mentioned in the previous post has continued to decrease, which is a very positive sign.
• The neuro team has confirmed that the brain bleed has stopped, and it has started to repair itself.
• The doctors believe there may be damage to his spine that will require surgery. They cannot perform an MRI yet because the temporary pins in his femur interfere with it. Once his femur surgery is done, they will be able to scan his spine and make a plan.
• Right now, the biggest concern is his brain. We learned that Eli was not wearing a helmet, and the team is worried about the extent of the injury. There is brain fluid leaking from his nose, which is very serious. The doctors cannot say yet what long-term impact this may have, but they are watching him closely.
•A lumbar drain is being placed today to help manage the brain fluid leaking from his nose. After that procedure is complete, the doctors will perform another liver scan.
Today will mostly involve tests, scans, and monitoring. I will share more updates later as we learn more. ❤️

Lida: First off you should give writing lessons. The written world needs your talent. Very well done!!!
The information is very informative and makes us relax a little knowing everyone is doing what they know how to do and most of the problems seem normal considering what happened. I loved to hear his body his trying to repair itself. This is so important!!!! John's body helped him when he needed it. I also found that when John became agitated I would hold his hand and whisper to him that I was there and everything was under control. This helped the anxiety he was having because he knew my voice and knew I was monitoring everything and he did n…
