We are starting off today with some encouraging news that both we and the doctors feel optimistic about:
This morning the nurse and neuro PA lowered his sedative and pain medications to test his responsiveness again. Eli was very agitated at first, but the nurse was able to calm him and speak to him directly. She explained that he had been in an accident, that he was in the hospital, and that our parents and Lindsay were there with him. She also told him that so many people are thinking of him and sending love and strength.
The nurse asked him to give a thumbs up, and he did. There was a slight delay, but the fact that he understood her request and made the gesture is a huge step. The PA was very pleased and said this is a great sign for his brain function.
After the test, they increased his sedation again to keep him comfortable and ensure that he is not in any pain.
He is no longer leaking brain fluid from his nose. The lumbar drain is working well.
His liver results are unofficially looking good. The doctor has not yet confirmed, but one of his nurses shared that the scan appeared positive.
His femur surgery is scheduled for this afternoon. It continues to be pushed back, but we are expecting it to begin around 1 or 3 pm. The surgeon said that once the surgery is complete, Eli will be able to put weight on his leg right away. He will not be in a cast, though he may need crutches for a little while.
The only downside to the later surgery is that he will not be able to get his MRI until afterward. Because of this, we may not receive MRI results today.
The doctors are leaning toward surgery on his back or spine. Nothing official has been scheduled yet. We will know more once the MRI is done, but the doctor feels it is likely.
The swelling around his right ear has gone down a little. The left side of his face is still very swollen, but the coloring around his eyes has improved.
He is receiving eye drops to help relieve pressure in his eyes.

Thank you for the very informative update. We're sending Love & good thoughts. Know it's going to be a challenge but Eli is tough. Thank you Lida, send Love to all of you. 💕B & the guys
